Current Schedule

Professor at Cal Poly Pomona, teaching Organic Chemistry lecture and laboratory classes.

Textbook Author My most recent professional endeavor was working as a co-author to David Klein's best-selling textbook, and the Klein-Starkey 5th Edition of Organic Chemistry was released in March 2025. I also authored an organic synthesis textbook: Introduction to Strategies for Organic Synthesis (2nd edition). Presentations & Publications

Teaching with Technology I am a strong proponent for using technology to support student success, and I have created a repository of active learning resources for Organic Chemistry, called ChemistryConnected. I have developed online lab animations & tutorials, online prelab quizzes, organic chemistry "clicker" questions, worksheets for "flipped" classrooms, and online organic chemistry lectures for Educator.com.

Getting motivated! Since 2020, I have helped facilitate Motivating Learners Course training sessions for CPP faculty. Here is a collection of Student Motivation & Video Creation resources.

Service to the Community I worked for ten years on the Chemistry GRE, I served as a peer reviewer for MERLOT, and I enjoy giving chemistry career presentations. Here is my OrganicERS spotlight, and please visit my YouTube channel ChemistryConnected to find lectures and hands-on science demos for K-6 students.

This is a personal website, and not an official website of Cal Poly Pomona or the CPP Chemistry & Biochemistry Department
