About the O-Chem Lab Tutorials

In an effort to help students prepare better for Organic Chemistry lab, a series of tutorials has been developed. A variety of Organic Chemistry Laboratory techniques are covered, including Crystallization (also called Recrystallization), Melting Point, Extraction, Distillation and Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC). Each fully narrated lesson presents an introduction to theory and videos of laboratory demonstrations.  The lab demo videos include an introduction to the glassware and materials needed, the experimental set-up, a discussion of safety concerns and common mistakes, a demonstration of actually running the experiment, and an analysis of the results.

What do I need to view the O-Chem Lab Tutorials?

The Flash-based versions of these tutorials are no longer available. However, versions of the free tutorials for the Organic Chemistry lab have been created as videos on YouTube (Chemistry Connected channel). These tutorial videos are not interactive, but they are accessible on all mobile devices, etc.
